what can be sadder
than the faces of pugs
nothing but life
with the absence of hugs

wag your tail, it's wednesday

              my favorite part
of the pride parade ...
of course,
it was the dogs

it was not the politicians
that captured my applause

the floats were cool,
the kids were cute,
the costumes were the bomb

but the groups
that stole my heart ...
had fur, and tails, and paws

wag your tail, it's wednesday

some dogs like baths
and some dogs don't
if you say to jump in
i probably won't
if you let me jump out
i probably will
'cuz i've never liked baths
and i feel that way still

wag your tail, it's wednesday

so different,
yet they fit together
like pieces from a puzzle
when one is missing
there is a hole

so alike,
in the love they give
unconditional and non-judgemental
when they are together
our life is whole

Do

i was feeling down and blue
thought of things that i could Do
like check other people's blogs
to see pictures of their dogs

or i could go out for a walk
see a neighbor, stop to talk
take some photos of the flowers
and then scrap away the hours

so i opened up my door
saw the sun and wanted more
walked a while and soon i knew
'twas just the thing to Do

as my gloom started to lift
the day became a gift
and all of nature's wonders
helped to pull me from out under

so if you're feeling blue
there are things that you can Do
i know that word is key
if you're feeling unhappy

if you can't Do it alone
call me on your telephone
because i have been their too
without the strength to Do

but today i'm Doing better
so let's fight this thing together
Do not let depression win
because I love you, my dear friend!

big hike

The Warm Up

if i had known
how far it was
i never would have gone

i didn't have a clue
the hike
would be so long
Hot Dog

The Carry
and boy
that sunshine sure got hot
as we walked on
and on

i got so tired
that i was glad
when momma came along

she carried me
for a bit
the hike to not prolong

after a break
i walked some more
i once again felt strong
The Second Carry

when michael
scooped me in his arms
singing his silly song

i didn't mind
his singing
as he carried me along

i walked some more
and finally
when i could not
go on

we were back
and i was glad
not to be dog gone
The Cool Down

wag your tail, it's wednesday

my family's going to the fair
i hear it's lots of fun
oh please, if i am really good
won't you let me come

you could dress me like a baby
with ribbons and with lace
no one would ever guess
with my cute baby face

wag your tail, it's wednesday

is this for German Shepherds
do others get to play
it doesn't seem polite
to turn my breed away

it's true some are ill-mannered
and have committed crimes
but that's also true of people
and they're not on this sign

wag your tail, it's wednesday

there isn't much, that i can do
but i'll stay close, 'cuz i love you
i'll make you laugh, and warm your feet
i'll even share. my doggie treat
and when you're strong, i'll still be here
even if it takes all year

STONE
TWO FRIENDS WERE WALKING
THROUGH THE DESERT .
DURING SOME POINT OF THE
JOURNEY, THEY HAD AN
ARGUMENT; AND ONE FRIEND
SLAPPED THE OTHER ONE
IN THE FACE

THE ONE WHO GOT SLAPPED
WAS HURT, BUT WITHOUT
SAYING ANYTHING,
WROTE IN THE SAND ,

TODAY MY BEST FRIEND
SLAPPED ME IN THE FACE .

THEY KEPT ON WALKING,
UNTIL THEY FOUND AN OASIS,
WHERE THEY DECIDED
TO TAKE A BATH

THE ONE WHO HAD BEEN
SLAPPED GOT STUCK IN THE
MIRE AND STARTED DROWNING,
BUT THE FRIEND SAVED HIM.

AFTER HE RECOVERED FROM
THE NEAR DROWNING,
HE WROTE ON A STONE:

'TODAY MY BEST FRIEND
SAVED MY LIFE'

THE FRIEND WHO HAD SLAPPED
AND SAVED HIS BEST FRIEND
ASKED HIM, 'AFTER I HURT YOU,
YOU WROTE IN THE SAND AND NOW,
YOU WRITE ON A STONE, WHY?'

THE FRIEND REPLIED
'WHEN SOMEONE HURTS US
WE SHOULD WRITE IT DOWN
IN SAND, WHERE WINDS OF
FORGIVENESS CAN ERASE IT AWAY.

BUT, WHEN SOMEONE DOES SOMETHING GOOD FOR US,
WE MUST ENGRAVE IT IN STONE
WHERE NO WIND
CAN EVER ERASE IT'

LEARN TO WRITE
YOUR HURTS IN
THE SAND AND TO
CARVE YOUR
BENEFITS IN STONE.

I don't know the author of this story but I love the message. You could also write the hurts in snow (if you live in Minnesota) and then they could melt away.

wag your tail, it's wednesday

baa baa white lamb
wag your little tail
even though it's crooked
our love for you won't fail

and though your mamma left you
we will keep you here
we think lambs with crooked tails
are very very dear

wag your tail, it's wednesday

i know i'm not a dog
but i still have a tail
it has spikes
covered with algae
on my shell
there is a snail
i know i am amazing
and you might think
i'm polite
but do not get too close
snapping turtles bite

well i'm stuck in bed
and i'm lookin' at my toes
and i'm wonderin'
if anybody knows
that my sweet toes
have a life of their own
and with my toes
i'm never alone
so i talk to them
and they talk to me
and i tell them soon
we'll all be free
but while we're stuck
let's make up rhymes
and sing about some better times

surgery

she doesn't want to do this
and knowing that it's right
doesn't help the nerves
or take away the fright

there's not much i can say
and not much i can do
but simply stay beside her
as we see this hard time through

wag your tail, it's wednesday

my mom and troy just left me
and i was all alone
there wasn't any happy
in our happy home

so dad sent me to karen's
he thought that would be best
he was a little worried
that i might get depressed

karen's house is heaven
with lots of dogs and toys
'cuz being a dog sitter
is what karen enjoys

with toys and friends to play with
the time went really fast
but i'm now glad to say this
i am home at last

home is still the best place
it feels and smells just right
and the people i call family
are my heart's delight

Another Yes Poem

God Says Yes To Me

by Kaylin Haught

I asked God if it was okay to be melodramatic

and she said yes
I asked her if it was okay to be short
and she said it sure is
I asked her if I could wear nail polish
or not wear nail polish
and she said honey
she calls me that sometimes
she said you can do just exactly
what you want to
Thanks God I said
And is it even okay if I don't paragraph
my letters
Sweetcakes God said
who knows where she picked that up
what I'm telling you is
Yes Yes Yes

Say Yes

Say Yes Today
Yes to Life
Yes to Love
Yes to others

Most of all

Say Yes to Yourself
Yes I am Beautiful
Yes I am of Value
Yes I have a Purpose

Yes I will
Be my true Self
Believe in my Self
Embrace my Self
and Love my Self

Say Yes!
not a small internal Yes
not a tiny whispered Yes
a confident strong Yes
Out Loud
Make sure you hear it and...
Believe it

Now - go out there and Be your True Self
The world needs You!

No Matter Where

even though we're in wyoming
and there's lots of room to roam
troy's favorite thing to do here
is his favorite thing at home

he has made friends with the horses
and chased some deer and geese
ran the fence with a new calf
and sniffed new smells on the breeze

but no matter what we do
nothing can compare
with a rubber ball and chuck-it
he is happy anywhere
